About solarstorm.today
solarstorm.today is a free, real-time space weather dashboard designed for everyday people — not just scientists. We translate complex solar data into simple health recommendations so you can prepare before a storm hits.
Why this exists
Research suggests that geomagnetic storms can affect human health: headaches, fatigue, sleep disturbances, mood changes, and blood pressure fluctuations are commonly reported during periods of high solar activity. Yet most space weather sites are built for researchers and radio operators, not for regular people wondering why they suddenly feel off.
We built this dashboard to bridge that gap. One glance tells you whether today's solar activity might affect how you feel — and what to do about it.
What we show
- Kp Index — the primary measure of geomagnetic disturbance, updated every minute from NOAA
- X-ray Flux — real-time solar flare intensity from GOES satellites, with peak markers
- NOAA G/S/R Scales — official geomagnetic storm, solar radiation, and radio blackout levels
- 24-Hour Forecast — predicted Kp values for the next day
- Active Alerts — NOAA warnings and watches with plain-language explanations
- Health Recommendations — actionable supplement and lifestyle tips based on current storm intensity
Data sources
All data comes from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) — the U.S. government's official source for space weather forecasts. Data refreshes automatically every 60 seconds.
Who we are
solarstorm.today is an independent project built by a space weather enthusiast and biohacker based in Austria. The health recommendations are based on published research and personal experience — they are not medical advice.
